Hoarding and other disorders:

The peculiar behavior of accumulating,collecting and keeping things with little or of no use is a common symptom of people with OCD,even if the problem may not be severe.However,people with hoarding symptoms are also be suffering from other disorders,such as depression,PTSD a specific phobia,skin picking,compulsive buying.If your loved one has OCD,tell your doctor about any symptoms of gathering,accumulating junk,garbage or obsessing about losing things.

How common is OCD? 
The disorder usually first appears in childhood,adolescence,or early adulthood.It occurs about equally in men and women and effects people of all classes and socioeconomic backgrounds.

How is OCD diagnosed? 
There is no lab test to diagnose OCD.The doctor bases his or her diagnosis on an assessment of the patient's symptoms,including how much time the person spends performing his or her ritual behaviors.
